I have always thought that February, our shortest month, was also the dreariest month. The highs of the holidays behind us and almost 6 weeks of winter ahead, February seems to drag on with dullness and lots of precipitation. That being said, the days are getting longer and although still grey, the extra daylight does lift the spirits and the hopes of better days to come. Even a small daffodil bed in my yard has poked through the thawed soil.
In this spirit the board and managers of the Bayview Community Center wish to welcome the new folks in town. We would like to encourage you to get involved in this wonderful community. There are things to do at the Center as you will note in the calendar of events. If you would like to start a new group or workshop just contact me with your info and scheduling needs.
Of special interest this month is the photography workshop taugh by professional photographer Mark Vogt. The class is open ended and takes place on Thursday the 1st and 15th of the month at 9am in the lower room. Bunco is a fun and easy game for all ages and will be held on Saturday the 10th and 24th at 1 pm. Come and bring a snack to share and a friend as well.
Also, the upcoming Chamber meeting that will be held on Tuesday the 13th is hoping to have a training session on the use of the defibrillator mounted in the main hall of the Center. It will be taught by one of our own EMTs from the Timberlake Fire Department. Specific details will be given as they are known. A heads-up from Chief Steele, there will be a “strategic planning meeting” of the Fire District to be held on Tuesday March 6th at 6pm at the Center. The Chief asks residents of Bayview and the surrounding areas to please attend this important meeting. The Department is looking for input from the community members. The Chamber meeting on the 13th is featuring a chili cook-off starting at 6pm before the regular meeting at 7pm.
Please remember that spring is just around the corner and our wonderful garden will need many hands to take care of the winter die off, bed cleanup, mulching, and the like. The Friends of the Garden will be putting notices out soon for the first garden event. Also, there are still some small garden beds available for adoption. The adopter would be responsible for the care of that bed during growing season, mostly weeding and maybe adding a plant or two.
Lunch On Us is in full swing each Wednesday at noon through April, thanks to the new managers Dennis Damon and Dean Knowles. Unfortunately, Dean is recovering from open heart surgery leaving Dennis to carry the load until he can return. So extra help is needed for setup and cleanup or if you like to cook for crowds and would like to take a turn as guest chef, please contact Dennis Damon at (208) 683-8608 or email [email protected].
Finally, our hearts and prayers go out to Dean, Earnie Marston, Marilyn Stanton, Sue Damon, and any other residents who are facing slow recoveries, serious medical treatments, or procedures. Stay strong, follow the doctors’ orders, and remember your friends in the community are here for you. For those who are home fighting the flu or horrid cold, be sure to take care of yourselves. Drink plenty of fluids, stay at home, and get plenty of rest and do not be afraid to call for help.
